I wish the fans and occasional users of #ChatGPT would read this, and try to understand that the whole thing is snake oil to trick us into burning the planet even faster than we are - so #gates and #balmer can buy a 10th yacht.

I don't want to die in a flood.
I don't want my kids to die in a mega fire.
I don't want my friends to die from heat stroke.

I don't want to live in a world where electricity is rationed to homes and hospitals because the #ai #datacentres suck up more juice than the region can produce.

I want clean water and a livable planet.

I'm with you on this. What are they going to do when AI's bubble bursts and they've built all this shit?

@kinetix
I suppose it will be just like the last switcheroo with crypto - on to whatever the next scheme is - if a new scheme will even be required by then.

What more can these companies take? I don't know, but I'm confident that with all this impunity going around, none of them will EVER stop so long as their profits increase.

Tough to even want to try and guess what they're going to manipulate us with next.

It's pretty hard to predict what things will look like a year from now, what with the shackles of democracy all but gone all but everywhere... but I'm really worried about *now*. How the hell do we convince "regular people" about this stuff?

People who are not deeply informed of tech and importantly it's history, lack the context to understand how DIFFERENT these tech companies are now. Similarly, those without a deep understanding of capitalism and colonialism will entirely miss the POINT of what tech was become.

That's why I really like it here on the #fediverse. At least the majority of folks here are either already well informed in many ways, or open to learning.

Same can't be said about society at large.

I think there needs to be a big movement toward getting people on board with tax reform. So many current problems are either caused by or exacerbated by not taxing corporations and individuals appropriately. Fixing this could get society on the whole better educated (supporting independant news orgs, free higher education), lower the abilities of corporate interests to lobby, and perhaps provide a basic level of income so people can spend more time paying attention and not running around thinking bullshit soundbites are the saviours they currently mistakenly believe they are.

There's of course much more to it than that, but I don't know how we get a grasp on anything at all until billionaires are a thing of the past and wealthy corps contribute to society rather than extract all value from it.

Exactly this: "I don't know how we get a grasp on anything at all until billionaires are a thing of the past "

It's looking like there aren't a lot of governments that have not been captured by the oligarchs, so meaningful reforms will be few and far between.

I really have no idea how we're going to come out on top of this - but I'm convinced it won't happen until the majority of people are on board with us. Again, I really have no idea how that might come to pass, but I sure hope it does.

I fear for the future, as I don't know if the populace near anywhere is ready or able to revolt.
