It appears LG is no longer going to produce Blu-ray players.

I didn't realize Samsung already stopped offering them.

This leaves Sony and Panasonic as the remaining major manufacturers selling Blu-ray players.

This sucks because streaming is starting to get really bad.

You having trouble with steaming? I use it practically every day for something.

The only time it sucks is when the internet is down.

in reply to Starcade

I use it everyday. But, I really don’t trust it for owning stuff.

I hope they can somehow come to a solution for the issue. I know it has to do with licensing rights. There should be a way to maintain for customers.

I own a lot of digital content, none of which has disappeared yet as far as I can tell, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. I know it has happened to others, but upon researching, it appears it's been for niche content or vendors that have ceased operating and don't have a way to transfer licensing to another content provider.

So far content I've purchased that is no longer available for purchase, is still accessible for me.

I would be more inclined to buy digital if it were like digital music nowadays. I buy it and have the option to download it. I have mostly stopped buying CDs (except for stuff that I want to collect) and have gone digital purchases for music. I'd be happy to do the same with movies too if I could download.

@mookie

Technically Amazon Prime videos and movies you own on Prime can be downloaded.

I've never tried it.

Sounds like you need the Prime Video app to view offline content.

@mookie

It appears there's some sort of digital validation from the viewing app.

But also you can view content while in airplane mode.

It's not entirely clear how long that content lives and is viewable after being downloaded.

Sorry, I re-read what I wrote. I meant DRM-free downloads -- like how music is nowadays. I buy a copy of the movie, I can download it DRM-free and store it wherever I want, watch it offline, use whatever player on whatever platform I want. I want to own a copy of the digital movie.
