"Pop" to me = ephemeral. The music industry has its own categorization & I have mine. 🙃 I sort my own music, have never subscribed to a streaming music service. Since mp3s & then iPods I've managed my own collection. So I've learned to assign categories that work for me. Pop is not a genre to me because many types of music enter the mainstream. Yeah there's an upbeat bop connotation to "pop" but I use it to describe any genre* music that I like for a time that won't enter long term rotation. 1/

in reply to Rob 🏳️🌈 Rartsy Humanist • • •*genre: I ignore the "genre" descriptor when sorting my mp3s. The field is an unlimited disaster, arrives pre-filled, often with nonsense genres I'd never use.
The main way that I sort my 1000s of song files is by Star Rating. I can assign on the fly & does not mean how much I like it. (That's not useful or interesting for me.)
5 * = heavy rotation
4 = play more rarely
3 = crowd pleasing/background
2 = crooners, divas, sing along
1 = relax
Songs get moved in/out of 5 to 4.
