For #CarlSaganDay I’m sharing my latest processing attempt for my #astrophotography class — the Andromeda Galaxy (with at least two of its satellite galaxies). The software learning curve is still kicking my butt, but as always I’m awed to be able to work with these images. Details in the alt text.

Image of the Andromeda Galaxy (Messier 31/M31), our closest neighboring galaxy at 2.5 million light years away. It appears here tilted diagonally from upper left to lower right, in a vast field dense with stars of different colors. Near the galactic core are two noticeably bright spots: M110 to the lower left and M32 to the right, two of the 35 dwarf galaxies orbiting Andromeda. Data taken from the Amateur Astronomers Association’s Gateway Remote Telescope program. Processed by me in Siril, GIMP, and Snapseed.

I never tried or even read about how you do this kind of photography, but I really think it is fantastic.
