#Apple Must Pay $14.4 Billion to #Ireland in Crackdown On ‘Sweetheart Deals’

Apple has been ordered to pay €13 billion ($14.4bn) of unpaid #taxes to the Irish state, in a #court ruling that ended a decade-long fight between #Europe and the big tech company.

Google and other big companies did the same thing: They set up a corporation in Ireland, transferred all their intellectual property rights to that corporation, and then rented/leased back the rights. The effect was to create a tax deduction in the US or EU and get the income in Ireland where the tax rate was less. There was an additional element involving the Netherlands and Bahamas (I think) called something like the "Double Dutch Crunch" or "Double Irish with a Dutch Sandwich" - https://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/double-irish-with-a-dutch-sandwich.asp
