Samsung to halt SATA SSD production, leaker warns of up to 18 months of SSD price pressure, worse than Micron ending consumer RAM

Makes sense considering most everything new uses M.2 these days, but bad news for those of us with older systems we still leverage that only have SATA.

I picked up a few today from smaller online stores before they realized. Will have to keep the servers running somehow

Not only older systems, a lot of (home) storage servers still use sata ssd cause its proven tech and hotswappable (and easy to do so).
This is bad in every way to look at it, and everything to do with samsung selling the nand chips to other places with a bigger margin

"Just think of how cheap parts will be when the AI bubble collapses." And other lies I tell myself as I go to sleep.

who wants to bet personal computers will become permanently unaffordable for regular people, and they will sell it back to us through a cloud subscription?

Yeah, honestly that seems like the most likely option. You get a glorified dumb terminal that accesses a compute instance under corporate control.
