A bit of banter can be fun - I still smile remembering when my new dwarf PC said he'd been watching the group for a while to see if he could trust them, and someone asked "why didn't you help us before? So-and-so just died!"
I'd probably mention something like the Heroic Spark if it looks like the conversation is getting out of hand, including if we really need to keep the pacing up
