"Over the many centuries of its history, humanity has grown accustomed to viewing the use of force as the last resort for resolving differences: “Might makes right.” Yes, sometimes this principle does work. Indeed, sometimes countries have no other choice than to stand for their interests with arms in hand and using all available means." - #Putin

Let me translate that into an understandable form:
We only respect international law and international treaties if they benefit us, otherwise the law of the strongest applies and he enforces this law by force if necessary. This has always been the case since the dawn of mankind.

"Yes, sometimes this principle does work." And he's dedicated to proving that.

That's exactly the way it works for all countries. He's just stating facts...

And if we let him get away with it, he'll test it on your country tomorrow. After all, bombing a country into democracy is the American way!

Never forget that the means justify the ends. The ends never justify the means.

Are peace and safety not good things? It depends on how you achieve them. Graveyards are peaceful.

Of course. Just because Putin is correct does not make him Right.

sometimes countries have no other choice

I think this clause is the key here though. Obviously Putin had other choices. He chose War to attain his interests.

It is Putin's way of thinking, which is also ingrained in the minds of other rulers, that ensures that we waste our money and resources on pointless wars. There are far worse crises to deal with.

There is always a choice! Haven't you watched matrix or voted for president?

You can vote for bullshit or premium bullshit 😱

Or watch the Ukrainians enjoy their democratic self-determination while your 2nd-class nation falters under autocracy. That's an option also.

@tomgrzybow@societas.online democratic self-determination has been a problem in Ukraine. Did you see the maps of election results in 2014? There was an almost perfect West/East split between the contenders. The half that lost was heavily punished, and the civil war started (of course fuelled by Putin, but not actually his sole creation).

Zelensky (a Russian speaker) was elected precisely to heal that rift. I don't know if he was himself entirely sincere (I think he probably was) but private interests (oligarchs) and US and its lackeys prevented him from changing the country's course towards the abyss.

If you didn't watch the series "Sluga Narodna" starring Zelinsky, it's absolutely a must-see to understand what happened (and it's pretty good). It also makes clear that his rise to power was largely fabricated.

Well, join the club.

@tomgrzybow@societas.online sure, when one half of the country thinks the other half to be dimwits or traitors, that can end badly... Depending upon who's dousing water or petrol on the embers.
