in reply to The Conversation U.S. • • •This is an artifact of the ancient past when it was simply assumed that your teeth were going to be pulled and you'd have dentures before you were 60. So dental care was considered a wasteful luxury.
Of course, now we know better and that attitude needs to be changed.
