Those palace guards are all starting to look alike.

Either that or the eyes are too big. It looks like the face of an larger person from the nose on up.

Part of what makes a face cute is the large eyes. Mammals eyes grow little, if at all, after they are born, but their heads continue to grow. To people, the faces of young mammals with their big eyes are cute. We're sort of hard-wired to consider very young children cute.

I think the popularity of eye makeup is related to this. It makes eyes look bigger.

Children also have smaller noses, so smaller noses are also connected to cuteness.

Here's gWaei's entry for kawaii.

可愛い【かわいい】 ateji Pop +
(1) -i) (1) (uk) cute/adorable/charming/lovely/pretty
(2) (uk) dear/precious/darling/pet
(3) (uk) innocent/childlike/childish/lovable
(4) (uk) dainty/cute little/tiny

Notice that the same word is used for "little" and for "cute." In Japan I ordered a small, portable printer. When it arrived, the women at the shop declared it to be kawaii.

Mammals eyes grow little children's heads are disproportionately large. Let's put it this way: Her chin is too small, and she seems to be missing proper cheekbones - the face is missing dimensionality.

The lack of cheekbones is starting to bug me. But she is an alien, right?

I personally prefer my aliens with blue eyes and green teeth.
