I played a lot of games over the years, but these days I prefers games with a bit of heft to them, I like to think and plan and work for my victory point. I like confrontation games less and less, solo-together or coop is best.
And yes, AP-players are no fun at all, the first few times with a heavy game is ok, but when it goes over into "I have to spend ten minutes thinking over every choice and options, every time, all the time, to make the perfect move" I kind of get a bit acerbic.
