As a weekend project, I'm going to install a fourth Linux distro on my desktop PC to get some gaming going! Batocera is a Linux distro that supports over 220 gaming platforms and consoles, including MS-DOS, PS1-PS4, and various controllers directly.

I've built a couple of custom handheld consoles for retro gaming using RetroArch and EmulationStation, and we have an arcade machine with a JAMMA circuit board at the office, but I haven't tried Batocera before. Let the games begin!

Batocera has been great when I’ve played with it in the past. It’s perhaps a tiny bit fiddly to get set up (a few nuances really need you to SSH in or get command line up) but a lot really just does work “out of the box”.

@wiredfire Since I'll have Batocera as another bootable distro on my PC, I can actually mount the Batocera drives on my Arch system and configure everything there directly, then just boot into it and play. Of course, I can always use my laptop or phone via SSH too. None of this is tricky for me as a sysop. ✌️
