Ulla Appelsin: Kommentti: Hyvä Finlandia-palkittu kirjailija, ei tehdä Suomesta Yhdysvaltoja

Voihan jeesus, mitä tekopyhää paskaa.

Jos jokin jengi on ottanut elämäntehtäväkseen mahdollisimman monen ihmisen hyvinvoinnin pilaamisen, niin ei minuakaan kiinnosta lähteä heidän kanssaan laulamaan kumbayata, vaikka isoisä aikoinaan itärajalla tarpoikin lumihangessa pyssy kourassa.

Appelsiini voisi vaikka kusta muuntajaan.

@jryi Kyllä, mielestäni todella kaukaa haettu kommentti Appelsinilta. En minäkään menisi Trumpin, Hitlerin tai Putinin juhliin. @magdalenahai:lta hyvä kannanotto, Appelsinilta tökerö vastine.

hi Roni, I’m curious do you mark the Finnish posts as Finnish language or is it set to English? Or does your Mastodon client not offer an option for that? I’m checking because I think I’ve set my client to filter out posts in languages I don’t (yet) understand, but I still see them. Sometimes it’s because people forget to set the language. Thanks for checking!

@neo I always mark my posts to whatever language I'm using (Finnish, English, Swedish). Mastodon does offer an option for it. It helps people to filter languages out and translate them.

exactly! Thanks for checking! Now I will try to figure out why the filtering doesn’t seem to work on my end.
in reply to Neo

I figured it out, from the Mastodon docs: “When the language filter is on, posts in other languages will no longer appear in your timelines. However, if you follow someone this will override the language filter and show you all their posts regardless of language used.” Interesting choice they made, not sure I agree. But now I know why I still see Finnish posts. Have a nice day!
in reply to Neo

Ah, that explains it. I actually ticked all language filters off anyway because our instance has DeepL translations which are accurate and I love learning about other cultures.

I’ll look into setting that up too because I share your philosophy! I use the Ice Cubes app and it can do translation too, but it said Finnish isn’t supported (yet). I’ll check to move it server side like you suggest.

@neo Would it be difficult to automate language selection? It seems like it should be an easy thing to do.

@mojala @neo There's been endless discussions about that amongst developers. It's not that simple. We used to have the automatic recognition in v3 or something, but they removed it because it was not reliable.

@neo Thanks! I think for most that it recognizes 2-4 languages would be good enough. And this could happen at the mobile keyboard directly regardless of app used.

@mojala @neo

I agree. There are multiple open issues about this.
