'Police Live Facial Recognition'

Is it limited to recognizing the faces of police?

If Badge_Detected == 'Y'
Then
Maximize_Privacy_Invasion(Object)
Else
Delete_image(Object)
End

Then it might work.

Carrying a donut might confuse the AI version of this code into false positives.
in reply to Sean Lynch

For now at least AI is really bad with beards. All the ones I've run into are anyway. Beards of any length--now that I've cut mine down some I don't have the same problems so they've improved or it's the length.

My bet is it still thinks it's the back of your head and weighs that too heavily.

That and eyes. It's always asking me to open my eyes wider.

So grow a beard and walk around with your eyes shut.

POLICE LIVE FACIAL RECOGNITION IN OPERATION

There is no legal requirement for you to be in the public space. If you are, you automatically consent.

in reply to Cory Doctorow

I walked past one of these once and I'm pretty sure by the time I saw the sign I was already passing "through the LFR area", so yeah.
in reply to Cory Doctorow

Stupidly enough I'd say someone wearing Zentai or a "morphsuit" could pull that off if not for their whole anti-masking bullshit.

Orwellian nightmare.

in reply to Cory Doctorow

Or, be dead. Or, following research by @timnitGebru and others: be female or a racial minority. Then you will be seen as a wildcard and matched with other females and minorities at random. They decided to do the Spartacus movie scene for you.

Flash mob wearing Elvis Presley masks or CV Dazzle makeup to poison their model? Portable LIDAR kit on everyone’s hats to burn out their sensors?

“The Day We All Bobby Tables’d the Met” would make a fine story title …

By continuing to use this public space you consent to our sharing your credentials with our [number withheld] partners.
in reply to Cory Doctorow

just an idea, but I think something like this, or similar, could defeat facial recognition.
in reply to Cory Doctorow

Those of us who don't wish to be facial recognized should just wear Groucho Marx glasses at all times.
in reply to Cory Doctorow

I recall an old time radio scifi story where folks would put on their "public face" before leaving the house... I assume they were dealing with this surveillance BS.

*Of course* this is in the UK.

Could the english have a cultural control kink? They began the panopticon cctv crap looong before anyone else, doubling down without a blink ever since.

might be that monarchy 'god save our hereditary ruler' stuff is behind their ingrained submissiveness to authority, idk? Kinda rubbed off on a lot of their lost colonies too, I mean look at the US these days, just squawking, all while knuckling under while the noose of fascism tightens

RE: masto.ai/@GhostOnTheHalfShell/…

@pluralistic

Apparently serendipity is working in my favor. I have some ideas about foiling the Panopticon.

in reply to Cory Doctorow

So if there's no other way to get to the other side of the street and I literally work at the end of the block, do I tell my boss I won't be in today because the only way I can opt out is to not go to work?
in reply to Cory Doctorow

Why is everyone acting like this is a new thing?? Been going on for like 20+yrs now, at least here in the US. This is a result of what started in the name of "protection" not the beginning.
in reply to Cory Doctorow

begging USians in the comments to TRY imagining that other countries exist, and see what happens
in reply to Cory Doctorow

By the time one is able to read what the sign says on the van, it's kinda too late to "opt out"...

in reply to Cory Doctorow

so, how come there's no legal requirement to be on it, but you can't opt out?
