ESTA: USA wants to check social media accounts of European travelers as well

cross-posted from: lemmy.zip/post/54712925

According to the document, the CPB also plans to request numerous additional personal data in the ESTA application. This includes all – including professional – phone numbers and email addresses used in the past five or ten years, names and phone numbers of close family members, as well as their birth dates and places. Biometric data is also included.

Never been to a game, always wanted to go
Had planned to go since the cup was announced. Decided by March or April it was not only going to be unsafe due to potential ICE raids, trump being highly visible involved potentially enticing an attack, to say nothing of the price...forget about it, wont go.

I still have the hope FIFA is going to kick the US out (most likely not to happen) or Mexico and Canda step away in hopes they hurt FIFA

How is FIFA going to kick the host of the World Cup? After literally creating a Peace Prize specifically to give it to Trump?

Hence why I said likely not to happen. But I still hold a sliver of hope

I love soccer but I am completely disinterested in next year's world cup because the fat orange prick is going to be everywhere, telling everyone that "people are saying it's the greatest world cup they've ever seen", getting selfies with the Portuguese prick who cares more about money than women and homosexuals getting hanged in public for being women or homosexuals. And fucking Messi, American's act like he's the only footballer that was ever good.

What are the chances that not having a social media account is treated as super suspicious?
in reply to Ulrich

Depends on the mood of the border agent, they will find any excuse in my experience

This will hurt US tourism and social media companies more than anyone.

Oh no, lots of companies rely on the ESTA as well. Good luck going to the US on business trips.

Nudging toward desensitization so that the US gov can ask for citizens media accounts. Hey fuckers! Look at my secret cat pictures!

I traveled to California from Europe this last July. The amount of information you have to give is absurd, and then the security at the airport didn't check shit. Security guy even asked for my fingerprints, but then looked at the length of the line and just let me through without giving any.

As if I needed any more reasons to never set foot in that wannabe dictatorship.

Muricans, fix your shit.

Nowadays I prefer to traveling to North Corea, which has less conditions, than to the USA.

No thx, I’ll have some pasta or souvlaki instead of a hamburger.

If they suspect the list might be incomplete, they will start the proper investigation. It's kind of the whole reason
