in reply to Lumidaub

Israel = antisemitic?
This entry was edited (3 days ago)
in reply to geneva_convenience

I don't know if I should. Because a dog whistle's nature entails that they're so very easily excusable as misunderstandings and "not what I meant at all, gosh golly" and conversations with people who use them devolve into shouting matches EVERY TIME and I don't know if I'm up for that right now.
in reply to Lumidaub

You can't just claim to see something nobody else has any idea what you're talking about and then not elaborate on what you mean.
in reply to TheLeadenSea

The person I'm talking to knows what I'm talking about. That's enough for me.
in reply to Lumidaub

How do you know they know what you're talking about? Did you DM them? Their public comments would seem to suggest the opposite, and I have no idea what you're talking about
in reply to TheLeadenSea

What do you think the title of the original post means? Why would they title it "every time"? What happens "every time"?
in reply to Lumidaub

Just say it outright what you think or I'll stop engaging with you
in reply to TheLeadenSea

That's understandable, I'm not here to fight with you, I'm here to tell OP that their dog whistle was heard. If you're interested further, ask your preferred search engine about Wikipedia's "early life".
in reply to Lumidaub

Ok but is he saying "jewish" or "israeli"? This is not like pointing out that someone has jewish heritage, because the guy still is pissraeli. Because pissraelis in silicon valley businesses is objectively a really common theme, not because of anything to do with jewishness, but because the pissrahelli ties to the US bourgeoisie and their need to establish direct control over the means of production.
in reply to mathemachristian[he]

Saying the thing out loud would defeat the purpose of a dog whistle. That's the beauty of it, the deniability.

I don't know why someone would want do do that. All I'm seeing is a post with literally no text other than a phrase known as a dog whistle. If you think it means something else, okay. I would ask for an alternative explanation for the title, because try as I might I can't think of one, but I'm deliberately not asking for one because I don't have the spoons to engage with that can of worms of denial.
in reply to Lumidaub

Off the top of my head, tik tok recently got sold to a zionist, facebooks ties to zionism are well known and their use of digital verification technology is even more intrusive, google, microsoft have been active participants in the genocide and have been known to roll out increasingly intrusive "verification methods". And of course Palantir (which btw is coming to germany thanks merz). So there is a strong link between these attempts at creating the "glass citizen" through so-called verification methods and zionism. That's my first reading of the title, but I will admit that the X user being an open fascist likely meant "israeli" as a stand in for "jew" and that gives the title a different context. (I hadn't noticed this until it was pointed out)

I’ll stop engaging with you

now this is internet threat of the biggest caliber 😂

in reply to Lumidaub

It means that Israel is heavily involved in spyware and privacy violation and there's a large correlation between companies engaging in it and Israelis. Especially those trained in IDF unit 8200.

in reply to Lumidaub

right now it is really unclear if YOU know what you are talking about.
in reply to Lumidaub

no. when you try to engage in public discussion that is the opposite of fine.
in reply to 14th_cylon

I have said what I wanted to say. I don't want to fight about this because it just give OP opportunity to call "misunderstanding".
in reply to TheLeadenSea

For a start, read the username of the guy whose tweet OP posted.
in reply to ɯᴉuoʇuɐ

Lol don't need to be smug about it, was a genuine question.

Yeah 99.99999% chance of the tweeter been nazi piece of shit.

in reply to ZeroHora

Yep. W40k may or may not say something about someone's politics, but the whole combination in the pic is just too much (greentext, "@ImperiumFirst", it's da joos). To dispel any doubt, check his feed: xcancel.com/imperiumfirst
in reply to Lumidaub

Dog whistles are commonly known and when searching for them the first thing which will usually pop up is an explanation of the dog whistle.

Unless you're implying it's antisemitic to relate Israel to mass surveillance and spying I'm not sure what angle you're going for.

in reply to geneva_convenience

I am not implying that. I've known since EARLY LIFE the difference between what people do and what a government does.
in reply to Lumidaub

so you meant antizionistic? in which case you can say that out loud. the difference is that zionism (the behaviour) is something that its perpetrator willingly chose to perform, can regulate and can be both bad and criticized.

semitism (an act of being a jew) is not something you control and not something that would hurt anyone and is therefor considered shitty move to criticize and attack in civilized society.

in reply to 14th_cylon

I honestly don't care what it's called, OP knows what I mean.
in reply to Lumidaub

so you are going to juggle with terms you don't seem to understand very well, refuse to explain yourself and die on the "you know what i said" hill? good luck with that.
in reply to Lumidaub

If you’re equating criticism of Israel’s global surveillance state with Jews, then the only antisemite in the room is you
in reply to Lumidaub

The title of this post doesn't reference jews, it references the fact that Israel is a major, if not the biggest player, when it comes to spyware. This article is highlighting, just how much influence israeli firms have, when it comes to spyware.
This entry was edited (3 days ago)
in reply to Quacksalber

Yeah, that's the thing with dog whistles, it's always "not what I meant, how dare you insinuate".
in reply to Lumidaub

So when another israeli pushes for a spyware solution, which is what the country has become infamous for, you are not allowed to say another israeli is pushing for spyware, because that could be misconstrued as a nazi dog whistle?
in reply to Quacksalber

Sure you can. That's not what OP did though, the entirety of their contribution to their post, apart from uploading a picture, was typing out a dog whistle and nothing else.
in reply to geneva_convenience

I will say that this has been in the works for a little bit now and it's more related to the UK's new laws. We've had this age verification stuff on Discord for some months now.

As for why it's being rolled out globally, not sure. The UK is not the only country / state starting to ask for ages verification on "social media" so maybe they thought it would be easier to use the same approach everywhere? Seems like a bad idea though as everywhere it's implemented it's unpopular.

My experience with it so far has been that... well... It hasn't affected me at all. Mostly because I only use friends servers and activism servers. Those aren't age restricted, so you never hit this check.

As far as age verification law compliance / implementation goes, this is not the worst one. That data leak early on was a clown show though.

Das sind die Regeln, alright then. Cool

Glad it hasn't affected you (yet).

As if there's a book called How To Sleepwalk Into Fascism and half of us stopped reading before the chapter on The Consequences.

in reply to feverin

Of course. It's not like I want this. I was out there messaging my MP when the UK law had just been pushed through and filling out the petitions. It didn't help though.

You can send a message to Discord by leaving, but they won't revert it for places where it's legally required.

This entry was edited (3 days ago)
in reply to Armand1

It's excusable for the UK but we're talking globally now. There's no legitimate reason to push this globally besides Discord wanting to ID all their users.
in reply to Eat_Your_Paisley

Except for all those communities that require it if you want to get involved.
in reply to Eat_Your_Paisley

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. A lot of the times the choice nowadays when about getting involved in something is whether it's worth your privacy. Which alienates from hobbies, causes, organizing, all the stuff that people do related to "touching grass". And lets not kid ourselves, even a lot of the stuff we want to do in our free time that is the opposite of "touching grass" requires discord.
in reply to Eat_Your_Paisley

i was just on discord and i only needed to send a dick pic to enter voice chat
in reply to geneva_convenience

This post would 100% fit right in on 4chan's /pol/ board.
The "Every time" title is what takes it from Israel-critical to anti-semitic. It's the standard format for right-wing posts "proving" a Jewish world conspiracy, implying the Jews are behind it "every time".

OP knows this of course, but they pretend they don't.

This entry was edited (3 days ago)
in reply to mech

oh if we replace the words in your sentence the meaning changes to something antisemitic

Bullshit. As if "Mossad" is not synonymous with dystopian surveillance... This is very clearly not alluding to an "Elders of Zion" conspiracy theory but the Mossad being one of the most aggressive surveillance agency's of the west which is common knowledge.

You saying the Occupation Regime Of West Palestine is a stand-in for Jewish people worldwide is what's antisemitic. Having to tip-toe around "antisemitism" is how the zionists want us to dilute and tone-down our criticisms. Yes the right wingers use "Israel" as a stand-in for jews and a lot of their dog-whistles sound very similar to legitimate criticisms, that's the whole point of dogwhistles. Lets make sure that our stance is clear and firm.

Fedditors not beating the zionist allegations anytime soon.

Look at the guys username. People who name themselves ImperiumFirst don't have issues with genocidal settler states, they have issues with jewish people.
in reply to Alcoholicorn

That's an actual argument tbh. The OP on X likely meant it that way.
in reply to mech

Another feddit.org user pretending a general term is antisemitic because Israel = Jews in Germany.
in reply to TrickDacy

What substance, a bunch of stuff he made up?

You can find almost all dog whistles by simply typing it followed by "urban dictionary". This is not one.

urbandictionary.com/define.php…

in reply to geneva_convenience

What they're saying is that "every time" is a common phrase on nazi forums when someone points out the jewish ancestry of a powerful figure. It eventually became the more infamous triple parentheses, or the "what a coincidence" and so on. It is used as a dog whistle, but people forget that dog whistles exist in a context otherwise they don't work. And that they are not just used to covertly signal other antisemites but to take over a topic and make it theirs like what happened with pepe, like they tried with👌 or whatever. There are unambigous dog whistles like "((()))" or "1488" and so on but this is not one of them.
in reply to mathemachristian[he]

They're using the phrase with the term "single" in between as the dogwhistle urbandictionary.com/define.php…

in reply to geneva_convenience

I just linked you to evidence that your language is a commonly used anti-semitic dog whistle.
in reply to TrickDacy

Can you read me the term you linked and also read the title
This entry was edited (3 days ago)
in reply to geneva_convenience

Hmm we went from 'does not exist' to 'totally different than what I said'. You lied when you claimed it was made up.
in reply to TrickDacy

We went from a term to adding a whole new word to make a new term.

Did you know 18 is antisemitic because if you put 48 in between it it becomes 1488?

in reply to geneva_convenience

Unsurprisingly 4 out of 5 downvotes are from feddit.org, because criticizing apartheid Israel or Israeli settlers is anti-Semitic.

Edit to add a video by German philosophy professor Hans-Georg Moeller:

Ask a Feddit.org user a question about Syrian refugees see what happens

A screenshot of Twitter, a site owned by a fascist and populated by fascists, of a tweet by a user called, ahem, "ImperiumFirst", posting in greentext format (which admittedly doesn't have to mean much by itself), with OP's own title being "Every time"... Why does this post feel like it's copy-pasted from /pol/? 🤔

Honestly, disregarding all the whingy fedditers, this is the only comment with anything substantive to it. Worth a reply from op.
in reply to ɯᴉuoʇuɐ

That's weird that a post with 172k likes and 4.4 million views is seen by two people. The pol post is about 100k likes before I took the screenshot and I've never seen it.

Do you think there's something about the post itself which makes the title "every time" an easy title to come up with? Surely not. Everything must be /pol.

in reply to geneva_convenience

No, but I can see why people would be jumpy when you repost a fascist pointing out the jewishness of someone (using Israel as a synonym) and then as the title (accidentaly) use a phrase that became a meme commonly associated with pointing out the jewish heritage of a powerful figure. Fedditors going straight for the accusations is of course you know... but it would have made me 🤨 as well if I hadn't seen your posts before and noticed the X users handle.
in reply to mathemachristian[he]

Nothing in the post points to the person pointing out the "jewishness". The only thing pointed out in it is the birth place of the person

The phrase also isn't associated with pointing out Jewish figures. It can be associated with discrimination. In this case the title is actually discriminating. Against Israelis for always pushing spyware. Which has nothing to do with "antisemitism".

The only way the "antisemitism" angle works is by going "Israel = Jews = antisemitism".

It really all feels like Feddit.org users going "whoaaa did you consider the Israelis are jewish?! Therefore you can't criticize them!" To which I recommend reading ofpatmos.substack.com/p/fight-…
