NO GOOGLE TRACK - CODEBERG

Peace and data security be upon you all.

This is my German-language site on Codeberg:

NO GOOGLE TRACK

It covers Google's abuse of power, Project Nimbus, and more. I also list alternative browsers and search engines, complete with pros and cons. I show you how to block Google services using uBlock Origin and strengthen your browser using the hidden about:config menu. The entire text is in German, but I hope automatic browser translation works well enough for you to understand. If you have questions, feel free to message me.

I didn't read it all, but am kinda surprised about the fingerprinting explanation. For me its the combination of all individual characteristics of your browser. What's the canvas graphic thing (item 2) you are explaining here?

What’s the canvas graphic thing (item 2) you are explaining here?

Canvas is a special "place"/way of drawing images on a website. It can be used for fingerprinting since different gpus/drivers etc draw things a little differently. Basically a script on a page draws thousands of shapes, pictures whatnot on a canvas you can't see i.e. is placed somewhere out of the standard view area. Then the script calculates some kind of hash or checksum. Combine that with other fingerprinting characteristics you'll get pretty nicely unique browsers.

For example LibreWolf blocks canvas by default for everyone and randomizes the canvas data on every read. If you happen to use a site that uses the canvas for legitimate purposes you won't ever see what's supposed to be there by the original design.

Thank you so much for explaining this in such detail! I'm still quite new to this 'privacy world'. If there are any mistakes on my site, I'd really appreciate feedback. And I'm trying my best to understand everything, even though my English isn't great yet 😅😅

Hi. Thanks for the comment! The confusion likely comes from the automatic translation of my German page. Sorry.

When I wrote 'We distort this graphic,' I didn't mean that I manually change it. I meant that the browser setting privacy.resistFingerprinting automatically spoofs the Canvas data for you.

So, to answer your question about 'Item 2': It refers to enabling privacy.resistFingerprinting = true in Firefox's about:config.

Once this is active, the browser automatically returns a generic, identical Canvas image to every website, preventing them from creating a unique fingerprint based on your GPU. It's a built-in feature, not a manual process.

Hope that clears it up.

Please let me know if anything is still unclear or if I made any mistakes. My English isn't great, so I'm using a translator, and I want to make sure I'm communicating correctly!

When you mention Mullvad and who historically makes it all I can find is Amagicom [AB] are they untrustworthy or something like that?
in reply to AuroraShine

Please don't take this the wrong way. Just a little food for thought. Please stop using the term "junkies." Junkies (derived from "junk") is a pretty dehumanizing and derogatory term for people suffering from a serious addiction.
in reply to UndergroundGoblin

Ah, that makes sense. No worries at all. I don't take it the wrong way. You are right. In my anger towards Google, I simply didn't think about that. That's why I changed the word 'Junkies' to 'Süchtige' (Addicts). Thanke you.
in reply to AuroraShine

Cmon that's really unfair—putting Addicts on the same level as Google. Google is wayyy worse... Jokes aside. Thanks for being so understanding and making the change :)
in reply to UndergroundGoblin

I swear to God, I thought the same thing at first. "This is actually an insult to all addicts" - But I couldn't think of another way to phrase it, because let's be honest, Google is addicted to metadata, so it fits. And youre welcome. I'm always open to advice. Thanks again! 🌹

As a side note, I've grown increasingly disappointed with fairphone. I recebtly switched to shiftphone, which also supports degoogled ROMs, and offers the same repairability. I think shift is much more aligned with the values fairphone claims to represent.

I've grown increasingly disappointed with fairphone

It would be nice to include why!

in reply to iglou

I posted a rant here. Looking back, I was a little to worked up and excessively negative, so take with a grain of salt.
in reply to PotatoesFall

Oh, Im sorry that u are disappointed with fairphone 🙁But thanks for the side note. I'll keep that in mind. Since I know absolutely nothing about de-googled systems and phones like this, I unfortunately have to experiment a bit myself. But could you please tell me exactly what you were disappointed about regarding Fairphone
in reply to AuroraShine

Mostly the FairbudsXL which are basically a scam, as the parts fail chronically but fairphone has abandoned the product and the firmware. I have bought the same replacement part 4 times. Also much of the product is proprietary and they don't allow you to run your own software on them.

The fairphone itself is not awful and I'm still using my fairphone 4, but I increasingly get the idea that they are increasingly abandoning their values in favor of profits.

in reply to PotatoesFall

Ah, got it. Thanks for sharing that with me. Honestly, I've mostly been looking at Fairphone because I felt it was better than the alternatives. Plus, there was something nostalgic about being able to pop the battery out from the back, just like old phones. At the end of the day, what really matters to me is a de-Googled system like Murena. But yeah, having a nice-looking phone wouldn't hurt either. Thanks again!
in reply to AuroraShine

fairphone is definitely better than samsung etc. I'm just being excessively negative like a good Lemmy user 🫡
in reply to PotatoesFall

😂 You deserve respect for that! Give me a few weeks on Lemmy and I'll hopefully be a full member of the negativity club by then! 🫡🫡🫡🫡

Thank you for your comment. I am still new here and inexperienced, so your feedback made me happy and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I appreciate you sharing yours with me.😊

I hope the automatic browser translation didn't confuse you or misrepresent anything. My English isn't great, so I relied on translation tools hoping you would understand my point.😅

What I was trying to say is basically this: We 'ordinary people' possess one of the most powerful weapons we have: boycott. And unlike a gun or other physical weapons, we don't need to 'buy' this weapon. That was the core of my message. Thanks again.

Hi, sorry my english sucks. I dont undestand your comment. What did you mean with "reddit?" This is my link to my Website in Codeberg.
in reply to AuroraShine

NO GOOGLE TRACK: aurora-shine.codeberg.page/no-…
