Start with the sensors, then design the rest: How Zoox built its robotaxi

yawn self driving cars are so boring, all they do is allow taxi companies to fire their drivers and treat their employees worse, how is this exciting? How is it futuristic? How does it improve and evolve cities?

Self driving cars always sounded futuristic to me, always feels weird seeing them drive by with no one inside or a person in the passenger seat

Aesthetically maybe, but that is a hollow fleeting sensation that is immediately suffocated by the fact that cars ruin cities no matter how "smart" they are.

I agree. I recently watched a video of someone exploring a Waymo servicing point and it was just masses of low-paid workers cleaning and repairing these robo-taxis. What a disappointing future.

I find it kind of insulting that they don’t even care that the name of their company is just letters.

It sounds like a made up Amazon brand.

“I don’t know, Zoox?” “Good enough.”

I thought it sounded like some sort of Ska fusion band name.
