“Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Wednesday likened the European Union to the former Soviet Union and called on Hungarians to ‘resist’ Brussels as they did Moscow in 1956.”

Remind me again why Hungary is still a member of the EU?

Look, unless the EU has mechanisms by which it can, at the very least, freeze membership of countries that come to embrace fascism, I don’t see how it doesn’t devolve into a fascist institution itself given enough time. You need to nip this shit in the bud. You can’t allow it to fester. You can’t invite it in. Freeze Hungary’s membership now. Let the people know, fascism isn’t welcome. If Hungary elects a non-fascist next time around, then, great, welcome back. Now don’t do it again or else…

Does nobody else see the threat of partisan politics on decision making? EU will be corrupted by fascism/so on... if nothing is done about it.

Indeed. The EU needs to grow a spine, and the tools to properly sanction (loss of all EU voting rights, and funding for starter maybe) member states who don’t meet the joining criteria anymore.

Edit: Article 7 is that tool. infosec.exchange/@avuko/113378…

In theory all other member states besides Hungary can reunite and setup an EU 2.0 without Hungary, copy all processes of EU 1.0 and subsequently leave EU 1.0.

In practice it's obviously very complex and several member states now have fascist parties in power.

there'd be no eu left. Most -if not all- eu countries have embraced fascist practices and speech.
so what if ruling parties are called right wing or socialdemocrat..., their actions (eg on refugees) show their real face.
fortress europe is a fascist entity already.

he's a nationalist, not a fascist. You must not now what fascism is and use it as "bad guy" but when you call people fascist who are obviously not, you just come across as ignorant.

Because EU money is good for Orban and for Hungary I guess... But ultimately because, as far as I know, the EU doesn't have any mechanisms that allow them to expel members.
