- #Israel is carrying out #genocide in #Gaza.

- Context! You must go back… all the way to October 7.

- Sure, let’s go back: let’s go back 76 years to May 15, 1948, to the #Nakba; the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people where 750,000 people were “expelled from their homes or made to flee, at first by Zionist paramilitaries through various violent means, and after the establishment of the State of Israel, by the Israel Defense Forces.” (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakba)

- No, no, not like that.

Slap bang in the middle of the Balfour declaration is a condition that Israel has never ever complied with.

But further back, up to 1945, there was something else.. we have to acknowledge and transform all the trauma, or it will never end
in reply to Lothar

@lk108 Right, was that when the Palestinians carried out the Holocaust?
in reply to Aral Balkan

No, they didn't, of course, and I want the IDF stopped NOW as much as you. My argument is that to get to a long-term solution, we have to acknowledge the trauma on the Israeli side as well, it's a major factor in this. By no means does this trauma justify any of the actions that are going on now [edit: or the Nakba, for that matter].

I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGH94HoSJ2s&pp=ygUaaW1wZXJpYWwgd2FyIG11c2V1bSBpc3JhZWw%3D (and part 2) a seemingly good primer on how we got here.

I have no subject matter experience or expertise so can't *vouch* for its accuracy, but I certainly felt better informed after watching.

I was going to comment about this post but there is too much that I want to say. I learned a lot from the Wikipedia article. Thanks for posting.

I don't really know much about the history of the region so got the book the Hundred Years' War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi on the recommendation of this video https://youtu.be/1ZPR-M5QFPA?si=ZFzZxNMroiEI9iVv

Hell. Why not go right back to the slaughter of the Canaanites - men, women, children and their cattle - ordered by some mythical 'God'?
in reply to Mike Waghorne

@mikewaghorne One happened within living memory. The other is a fairy tale in a fairy tale book.

(“Archaeological data suggests that Canaanite cities were never destroyed or abandoned.” – https://www.science.org/content/article/ancient-dna-reveals-fate-mysterious-canaanites)

in reply to Aral Balkan

That is probably true but it is the kind of fairy tale that Netanyahu is using to slaughter Gazans. He refers to Gazans as Amelakites who must be destroyed. Fairy tale tellers can kill with calm consciences.
