Ruined his freaking life though. That makes me sad.

It appears this refers to:
* Dr. Elisabeth Rosenthal, a medical journalist who formerly worked as a medical doctor. (Wrote the 2017 book, "An American Sickness: How Healthcare Became Big Business and How You Can Take It Back")
* American film director, Michael Moore (made the documentary "Sicko" which is available for streaming)

“what other recourse do people suffering have? Suicide?”
I think people would be surprised at how many people that actually is the answer for: either directly, through MAID if available, or by simply not pursuing treatments that would bankrupt their loved ones.

I really think people would be surprised at how many people are complicit in the delivery of the service of early termination of care for patients who are either having difficulty paying for care or are difficult to care for at any stage in their lives or who are deemed a drain on the system of profit above all.
Suicide is not a decision that is required anymore.

And the reason for the US statistic in that category is not in the 'death panels' or AI programming. It is in the systemic orientation of profits at the expense of life of the entire health industry - from the top to the bottom - from the CEOs to the nurses on the floors. Do not exclude anyone in your considerations of this issue. The callous way we treat our neighbors and our aging and our disabled and our suddenly traumatized populations is telling. Follow the money.

I am cynic enough, I guess. And I have buried too many friends.

FOR PROFIT "insurance" is the issue.

Except we know what happens when you directly kill oppressors and evil people. We've seen it through history. The reason it's not a strategy commonly used is because it doesn't really remove any power or make any change. They're gonna vanish this guy. And UnitedHealthcare will have a new CEO, and people will forget him in a year. Meanwhile, anyone who walks close to a CEO from now on is gonna get iced by his security teams. And they'll get away with it. The Pinkertons will go proactive.
Conflicted emotions. I've been in this fight against the 1% for a long time, and a rich white 1% kid snapping and acting like we've all got it wrong is just..Let the rich white people tell us how to protest right.

#ClassWar
(I'm still not shedding any fucking tears for a remote-murderer CEO!)

in reply to Aral Balkan • • •This puts a point on the "you can't put a price on human life" bullshit.
our society puts a price on human life every single day. not just in healthcare, but in almost everything. It's also not necessarily bad either. We could spend a million dollars on something that saves a single life. or we could spend that million on something that would save hundreds.

in reply to Aral Balkan • • •Also, I'm sure he's on the same page as me in that we need radical systemic change, but he knows that many American people, irrespective of the political leanings, have had negative experiences of US healthcare and it's a pretty good rallying point to perhaps build something bigger upon
