and let’s be clear: even if all Jews were Zionist (they’re not…but for a moment, let’s do ‘if’) that wouldn’t make criticising genocide, racism, land theft problematic in any way. Such criticism would still be morally right. And in no way would it be antisemitic.

it's also a "double loyalty" trope. By conflating Jewishness and Zionism, the subtext is that they're not real Americans, Portuguese, Germans, etc. An old white supremacist argument.

I find this letter very enlightening:

It's a letter written by the only Jewish member of the British Cabinet at the time of the Balfour declaration explaining why he disagreed with it and despite being written more than a century ago rings very true.
