“mastodon.social has over 2 million users … I think it's safe to say the the mastodon codebase is tuned for mastodon.social”

I keep getting asked why I’m working on the Small Web – which is tuned for instances of one (not two or two million).

This is why.

(It’s also why I was advising a certain someone to limit the size of his instance… until my advice was no longer compatible with their plans/welcome.)

Interesting write up. Please know that there are lots of people who are appreciative of your work (many may not even realize it). That doesn't pay the bills though.

I lack the skills that you have, but I am interested in a future where I could run my own Mastodon instance.

Hi, Any examples of running kitten inside Docker? would be great to deploy to my home unraid server..

It’s not really a supported use case (the idea is that your Kitten app/site runs in a tiny VPS or on a little SBC plugged into your router) but there is this, in case it helps: codeberg.org/kitten/app/pulls/…

Small Web will be a game changer over the Big Web. Once it's full developed and adopted as a standard alternative products/services vs the Surveillance capitalism mainstream web.
