“I really like the Small Web. Thanks for NOT supporting it.”

ar.al/2022/10/20/nlnet-grant-a…

(We tried one more time after that, got rejected again, and then stopped wasting time with @nlnet and @NGIZero. The Small Web will launch this year with ZERO EU funding in its six years of development from NGI/NLNet. If you want to support us before it does, please see small-tech.org/fund-us. After we launch, we aim for it to be self sustaining. So NGI/NLNet have been and are irrelevant as far as the Small Web is concerned.)

Perhaps rather than writing an angry rant about failing to secure extremely sought-after EU funding, you could write some feedback saying more money is needed for vital projects?

@jmaris Nah, I’m fine with the angry rant. Because I’m angry. Or was. As I said, they’re irrelevant now. Needed them years ago. Not when almost all the work is already done and we suffered through those years.

What do you think communities are comprised of?

(I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss the concerns of individuals who are part of the community and working on exactly the thing an organisation purports to support when they air their grievances. It makes the organisation sound even more arrogant and clueless and than it might already be.)

I don't represent the organisation, but i'm just saying that they have a limited amount of funding for hundreds of projects, and getting mad at them because they didn't have enough for your project is counterproductive.

Did they not have enough? Who knows? The process is entirely opaque. Public money should have a public process that’s transparent. Who are the people deciding? What are their technical qualifications? What was the deliberation that took place? Why aren’t any of these things public? Maybe I should write something more about this if I find time. But right now I have to code the thing I’m making and that’s hard enough as it is with zero funding. So I’ll get back to that.

Aral Balkan reshared this.

@jmaris I am not affiliated with them either. But If I were I would not fund Kitten since it is not obvious what its added value is over other microframeworks like Flask. Also, a robust internet needs less Javascript, not more.
