On Mastodon, you never see all replies, especially if you host a small instance.
GoToSocial and IceShrimp.NET do a fetch all replies when you open the detail of a post.
This feature may finally be on its way to Mastodon!
Hoping it gets a UI indicator showing the reply retrieval progress. Right now, that is lacking in other software, you have to refresh the screen after a bit of time has passed and then see them, not ideal.

Now that I'm back to running my own Mastodon server, I am using FediFetcher as a Github Action to fetch replies in the background.

I can't wait for the change you posted about to get done though, it will be nice for it to be a built-in function of Mastodon.
GitHub - nanos/FediFetcher: FediFetcher is a tool for Mastodon that automatically fetches missing replies and posts from other fediverse instances, and adds them to your own Mastodon instance.

(Even though I’ve got a lot of error messages sent by mail over the night about failed/cancelled runs.)
