@ambivalena thank you! I have a thing for gloomy basement rooms for some reason. I think it's because I spent a lot of time in the basement of the physics building when I was in college. My dad had a lab down there, and it was a very peaceful—albeit somewhat spooky—place to work at night.
(I wouldn't have been surprised to encounter some odd creature down there, although as I understand it, that only happened in the biology building, which was even more dismal and spooky.)
Ah, well that makes sense. I have a simillar thing with old garage's that smell of oil and lime (-stone) since my father often fixed old cars, but they could also be a bit scary to visit before the light came on
