Large institutions will do anything to make a "problem" go away with the minimum of fuss to those in power. Often that "problem" is a person. They are utterly spineless when it comes to protecting those who are being attacked, and would rather the victim just go away so they don't have to do anything. The University of Cambridge is another poster boy for this. Not just with the recent events, but systematically. I've seen it happen many times over the years I've worked there.

Getting into a position of power in a large institution makes you virtually indestructible, and pretty much unaccountable for your actions. It's horrible to see it happen again and again.
