I don't follow the controversy.

John's solo albums tell my ears he's more than capable.

And Zakk? He said long ago that he would be by their side if they ever needed him to help pay homage to the brothers and their legacy.

Maybe to some, it's not as good a match as Holt carrying SLAYER... but these guys are stepping up.

totally agree on all cases. I love other musicians’ interpretations of classics. One of my favourite things is listening to covers of metal classics by other bands (metal and non-metal. I think I’ve got 5 different versions of War Pigs). And vice versa. I loved the compilation of metal bands doing Abba covers.
