🚨 Google wants to kill Android freedom: Starting 2027, unverified apps can’t be DOWNLOADED.

➡️ No installation of independent apps

➡️ Destroys alternative playstores like F-Droid

➡️ Google decides what runs on YOUR phone

Help us fight this plan! ✊

wouldn't that go against eu competition regulation? Sue Google?

I prefer installing a custom ROM and not having the Play Store over not having my FOSS apps. People already recommend having a second phone just to use banking apps anyway (to be left home, so to discourage kidnapping), I can use my old phone for that.

Better yet, drop Google altogether. Look into CalyxOS, GrapheneOS, Murena's /e/OS. Granted, custom ROMs are in their infancy, but they will never get out of it without popular support.

Google is using poorly contrived MS business strategies (organized crime). What has happened to these businesses that greed and power is their driving mantra?

you still are behind, frankly maintain you up to date it's does not show you in good light.

Google said they will add a way for user to disable the verification ....

ie- f Google into oblivion. surveillance state nazis

they're doing free advertising for GrapheneOS at this point. So glad i made the switch.
in reply to Tuta

Download? They come preinstalled and can't be uninstalled.

I thought they'd rowed back on this and weren't implementing anymore?
in reply to Tuta

Presumably this will be against the consent decree regarding closed app stores?

Guess the second hand Pixel phone market is gonna boom 🙃

Google has forgotten that WE own the devices. (As have Apple and Microsoft.)

I am still curious about what is their plan for implementing this
