Well, #Canada is still part of a European, #UK-based #Commonwealth, for one thing.

Then, there is #CETA. And #NATO.

Maybe #EuropeanUnion might not be an appropriate term anymore, maybe #TransatlanticUnion would be more appropriate?

In fact, I favor #CEUM, for the time being.
An #FTA, similar, to how the #EuropeanCommunity got started, back in the day.

How come Jamaica and Kenya aren't invited into this "European" Commonwealth/theme park with FTAs?

@Veza85UE

This, you must ask the negotiators of the current FTAs (see other post of mine.)
MEX and CAN are already negotiated.

@BioSchweiz Are you American by any chance? Because I have no problem with non-Europeans so thoroughly misunderstanding the EU, you do you.

(That whirring sound you hear? That's "Saint" Robert Schuman spinning in his grave if you ARE European and refer to the CECA as an "FTA"...)

@Veza85UE

#CETA

Whatever this "CECA" might be that you're referring to, "CETA is a free trade agreement between Canada and the EU," as the Canadian government puts it, too:

international.gc.ca/trade-comm…

...but thank you for your perspective. I can now imagine how many of #CharlesDeGaulle's contemporaries must have felt, when he put forth his bold visions for a united Europe of sovereign states after World War II:

@BioSchweiz "Whatever this "CECA" might be that you're referring to" Yeah, see... this is what I mean. Plenty of Europeans are just as ignorant about the EU and our history and with them I think it's worth engaging on the topic. But if you're American and you don't know what it is and why it's NOT an FTA (as you referred to it) and why the EU is NOT about trade (and never has been at its core, though trade is an important *tool*) why should I listen to you eurosplain to me?

@BioSchweiz No, that's not how it works. If you're not an EU citizen, you don't get to say stuff like: "Maybe #EuropeanUnion might not be an appropriate term anymore" and expect anyone to care, one way or another.

The EU is NOT a mini UN, not an NGO, not an amusement park with trade agreements, etc. Which, again, if you're not European, I don't care if you think it *should* be any of those things, was just trying to make sure you're not an 🇪🇺 citizen.
