Google now wants your phone number in return for more storage 🀯 ⚠️

---> Just another reason to #DEGOOGLE.

Google has reduced the free default storage for new accounts from 15GB to 5GB UNLESS you verify your account by providing your phone number.

It's time to ditch Google, and switch to an alternative email provider like Tuta Mail - we let you sign up #anonymous ❀️

you been a great service i really liked google it’s just something that im learning about them wanting to drive away people who really need a good email service

"Google will use your phone number to make sure storage is added only once per person".

I mean, how does it prevent you from creating other accounts to get more storage? Sure you'll need 3 times as much, but still.

There are and were better services like MEGA that does offer 20GB of free encrypted storage.

Anyways, self-hosting Seafile for simple cloud and file-sync has been a way for me a long time.

Registration over Tor never works. Are you really allowing us to sign up anonymous? πŸ˜…

I'm a paying Tutanota customer but I'm (still) on a non-deGoogled Android, and I just have to wonder if the point made here is actually moot? I mean I'm fairly sure that if you run Android on your mobile, Google knows way more about you than just your phone number...

funny how for years I (and others) warned about the dangers and privacy concerns with Google, Alexa, Social Media, etc but I (and others) were called "conspiracy theorists" but as soon as the people running these companies align with a politician that people don't like, now those companies are corrupt. Always have been, always will be.

Each day I thank more that I moved to Proton Drive.
