This is going from "we're worried about our data" to "fuck America" pretty fast if you're even not mentioning Signal anymore.
in reply to Tuta

Three and a half of these I've never even heard of.
in reply to Tuta

I guess Signal is not European. All good. Thank you Tuta. I didn't know these existed.
in reply to Tuta

There's a typo on Teleguard. Also, even if it's not European, @signalapp is the way to go. :)
in reply to Tuta

Why didn't you not include @matrix on this list? They're a UK based Foundation.

Unless you're referring as Europe and the EU as the same thing... when they're both completely different!

Even though its "US based" I bet @signalapp will leave in a jiffy if/when someone attempts to get control of it.
Also @Mer__edith is a badass ^_^ (read or listen to any interview if you don't believe me)
in reply to Tuta

which of those are capable of interoperating? Because if we don't solve that, we'll be pretty much alone in our little nichesque messenger apps. For now, American or not, I have to stick with @signalapp app... it was hard enough convincing my family and friends to use it.

Why is Olvid on the list? It's heavily promoted by the French government. The French government who wants to have a backdoor in e2ee.
in reply to Vanstra

@Vanstra Olvid has reasonable good UX and is used by the French government, so it won’t shutdown like matrix main server
in reply to Artem R 🇺🇦

@asci that's not my point. I mean how secure is Olvid when it is heavily promoted by a government which also is promoting a law for breaking e2ee

🔐✌️ Victory for Privacy and Security in France 🇫🇷

End-to-end encryption will continue to be available in France, as the assembly overwhelmingly voted against (119 votes against, only 24 in favor) an amendment to legislation fighting drug trafficking which required backdoors in encrypted messengers.

The challenge is to get your contacts use one of those including Signal
in reply to Tuta

@simplex
Tool is a tool, origin is not a matter, as long as tool is FOSS.
in reply to Tuta

Yes, Signal is US based, but still very much a good alternative for WhatsApp and Messenger.

Threema works perfect.
My experience with Wire was that the app just lost contact with the network... Properly!

The others no experience yet.

in reply to Tuta

Where's Matrix? Like I can host a server in my home country and use that protocol, wouldn't that also be quite vaild?
in reply to Tuta

all these are useless if friends won't switch too... Some of my friends even INSIST on using only Discord. Ewww

Not even encrypted!
