It's official, the #Metaverse failed!
Meanwhile I don't even know 1 person who ever visited it ๐Ÿ˜…

Not one(!) after:
#Meta "...had funneled some $73 billion into Reality Labs. To put that into context, youโ€™d have to spend $1 million per day for 200 years to match that kind of spending."

Just wish I knew how to reach the Metaverse, or I would also post this there ;)

Here is hoping @threads is somehow connected ๐Ÿ˜‚

in reply to MadeInDex ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐ŸŒŽ

for several months the link between thread and Fediverse has been under "maintenance" without any guarantee that the link could continue one day.

Signals like this or the change from .net to .com do not bode well for the future. It's best not to expect thread to continue to be connected.

@JBrickelt963 Very very good point!!!!
opened this up for broader discussion here: mastodon.social/@madeindex/115โ€ฆ

Is #Threads even still trying to federate?

โœ… They changed their .net domain to .com: mastodon.social/@madeindex/115โ€ฆ

โœ… They have not continued federating, it's still a one way road of
Fediverse traffic moving to Threads:
mastodon.social/@madeindex/112โ€ฆ

โœ… There haven't been any changes since I can remember & it's always been in "Beta".

โœ… The only "change" I have noticed is a spam notification before every! post "Continue sharing to the #Fediverse?"

Imagine if those 73 billion had been spent on improving schools, or making insulin cost-free for diabetics.
in reply to LillyLyle/Count Melancholia

@LillyHerself ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ 73 billion is just so much money, if you spent that on research you could probably cure diabetes & throw in another common disease for good measure ๐Ÿคฏ (good news recently on diabetes cure though, even without Meta help ;)

It sucks, but at least Marky Mark can hang out with his 5 "friends" (employees) in his own version of world of warcraft now ๐Ÿ˜‹

I was always amazed and would make jokes about these verses with no legs. Microsoft had something similar for Teams.
in reply to Joe Loveless

@Pacers31Colts18 ๐Ÿ˜‚ How could anyone not sign up for that1990s design?! Well Doom 1993 did have legs - so maybe 80s ;)

Wow you are right, Microsoft also couldn't afford the legs:

when you say "the metaverse" you are actually talking about the app "Meta Horizon" ? Don't you ?
Because I know a lot of people going in some metaverses like VR-Chat and it's really cool
in reply to MadeInDex ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐ŸŒŽ

because metaverse is just a common name for talking about multiplayer social apps. So I don't like using the word metaverse to talk about the one from facebook. They stole the common name to use it for their marketing, now everyone think metaverse = Meta Horizon World
in reply to MadeInDex ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐ŸŒŽ

Hypothetically, if I were a major shareholder in a company that spent $73 billion on a whim with absolutely nothing to show for it, I would be doing everything I could to replace the leadership...

It really highlights (yet again) how "boards represent the shareholders" is a pile of horseshit.

in reply to MadeInDex ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐ŸŒŽ

It's all funny-money though. Doesn't exist outside the circle of tech-bro companies that "invest".

Just like the current AI "investment": OpenAI invests $100bn in Nvidia who invests $100bn in Microsoft who invests $100bn in OpenAI. [paraphrased]

@TheLancashireman ๐Ÿ˜‹ whats a couple billion here and there among friends?!

Ye, there was a nice graphic on this recently:
