Good morning πŸ’”
Today, while I was cooking over the fire, I realized how simple this is for some people… and how hard it is for us.
The heat was burning my face, the smoke getting into my eyes, and every time I tried to make the fire stronger, I could feel my hands burning.
There’s no gas, no kitchen… just two stones and a fire we try to use to make a meal to survive.

Alt text: a woman wearing a mask cooks with a pot on an open fire, dishing out what look like beans with a wooden spoon from a stew.

Thank you for describing and respecting the photo🀍πŸ₯€
Yes… a woman cooking on an open fire, but behind the picture there is an entire story no one sees. The smoke burns our eyes, the heat burns our hands, but the heart keeps fighting. We cook this way because life forced us to, not because we chose it. Every meal that comes out of this pot is not just food… it’s a small victory over our circumstances, and a reminder that we are still here, still resisting, still living πŸ’”πŸ₯ΊπŸ€²πŸ»

Thanks, Maram. The alt text (short for alternative text) describes the image for people who cannot see it and use special tools known as screen readers to have a description read out to them so they can experience it too.

You can add a description to your images yourself when posting and you can also edit your posts to add descriptions that others have provided for you to existing posts.

(On Mastodon, a lot of people don’t boost posts that don’t contain alternative text so it’s a good habit to get into if you can. Given the hardships you’re being forced to endure, it’s perfectly fine if you can’t. Others will help, like I just did.)
