I am confident that, when we finally do make contact with non-human intelligences, the most important thing we will find is that “people are people.” It’s the one universal truth among human cultures; it’s really not unreasonable that it would be true for non-human cultures too. The universe is a tough place, we’re all just doing what we can to get by.
