Doing great, going strength to strength with a lot of help from many supporters. Well over 1M subscribers for his channel. You can now officially drive up and visit although the road has been washed out twice this winter so AWD/4WD advised.
in reply to Abandoned America

we've been there three times, and every time find something new.
in reply to Olav

@olavf only twice for me but I want to go back. Maybe it'll be the opposite for me: the first time I went my back was horrible and I could barely walk. One of the worst times it happened. But I knew I might never get another chance to see or photograph it so I suffered through it anyway. I'm glad I did but boy was it agony even though I was loving the place itself.

in reply to Jason O'Mara

@JasonOmara nah, I got a bunged up foot and even hopped up on ibuprofen I have to watch my step. So it's like hobble around one day and find something to do the next.

Last time we got super lucky and not only was Tioga Pass actually open but there wasnt anyone in Yosemite Valley. Crazy.

in reply to Olav

that IS lucky. Both times I had bad luck around the trip (though the place was spectacular) but I could totally see where the terrain there would be challenging in that case

sorry to hear that :/ It's remote enough that small things can become big things. But I'm glad the main attraction worked out

I don't know if you've ever done a (dis)organized photo walk but even a small group the pace is forgiving

in reply to Olav

@olavf thanks! And I did a photo workshop here and was hoping to go back

idk what happened to the other half of my comment but a cane is more friendly than other options. And I'd be offended if they changed anything

I'll never forget going into Bodie via the back road with my dad, age 13.

His truck had pull out drink holders above the passengers side. A barely there affair, no real bottom except a plastic strip. I had a half finished soda in a paper cup.

We went over a big bump and the cup bottom fell out and I had soda dump on my lap, soaking me.

My trip to Bodie was damp and sticky.

in reply to SewBlue

@sewblue oh no, that sucks! I can vouch for the bumpiness. I was having back issues the first visit so I felt every single stone in that road on the way in

I visited Bodie one summer with my family. What an amazing place to experience. I hope to go back someday!

Now that I've gotten into photography as a hobby, I want to go back and try my hand at photographing it.
in reply to Tom Slider

oh, it's a great place for it. Hard to go wrong with that as your subject

Abandoned America
@PadreWil aww, I feel you there but hopefully we're both wrong about the last two at least
in reply to Abandoned America

If a few friends as in my case start showing you pictures of their detour to Bodie, even as an N=1 sample, my guess is this so called ghost town could in fact become pretty overcrowded.
in reply to JulieB

@JulieB thank you! Figuring out lighting is tough. Leaves me even more things to be self-critical about after I can't change things
in reply to Abandoned America

hey if there’s a couple of desk fans and a roll of duct tape that’s enough for me.
in reply to Abandoned America

oh so you have been out West. I was trying to look on your website to see if you'd been out here, but I didn't see how to filter by geographic region.

I dunno if you ever photograph with other people, but if you're ever out in SoCal again, I'd love to go shoot.

in reply to paperdigits

@paperdigits thanks! I stopped meeting people I don't know after a few bad experiences and my website is definitely east coast heavy but I do hope to travel more in the future
in reply to Abandoned America

fair enough, internet people are weird af, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way.

Just found your stuff recently. I've been enjoying it/jealous at the quantity. Keep up the good work!

in reply to Abandoned America

The lighting coupled the old truck, shack, and stars is beautiful. Probably one of the best photos of yours.

Abandoned America
@Onidotmoe ha! You should have seen it in person. Very nearly pitch black in spots you didn't have a light on
