I think it's kind of tiresome to constantly, and so acrimoniously, relitigate the ideological conflicts of the twentieth century when we seem to be so far away from a communist revolution of any kind. The differences between Trotskyism and Marxism-Leninism don't really mean much to people who are not already Communists.

The differences between Trotskyism and orthodox Marxism-Leninism are important to communists. One of the main criticisms against Trotskyism is that it is opportunistic, and if this is true, then this difference would absolutely matter because if the communist movement were to become Trotskyist then it would in turn become opportunistic and lead to the failure of the communist movement.
