Noticed #MetaAI is now in #WhatsApp? 🫣 If this concerns you, you're not alone 💛

In our latest guide, we look at how you can get rid of Meta AI 👉 tuta.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-…

Cory Doctorow reshared this.

Today I informed my contacts that I'm leaving the entire META ecosystem next week. For now, I'll be using Telegram (very popular in Spain) and Signal. I'll also be deleting my Facebook and Instagram accounts.

More interesting question: "When will Meta compensate for all the copyright infrigments it committed while training their AI? What policies are established to effectively prevent such theft in the future?"
in reply to Tuta

"switch apps" is a pretty deceptive solution for a clickbait headline. Not good when you're pitching on trust. Do better.

@tsyum @philbetts Thanks for your feedback, noted. Unfortunately, in this case there's no other way - if you want to get away from Meta AI.
in reply to Tuta

@tsyum @philbetts If you count as "get away from Meta AI" as disabling its interface from WhatsApp, then that's incorrect.

It's possible to remove Meta AI from WhatsApp: switch to a language it doesn't support, and, if they support this language in the future, switch to other language it doesn't support. Works best if you already memorized the position of every single button or if you know that other language. Extra points: other people using your phone will not understand a single thing.

Let be real, until something horrible happens, like Meta stealing their money, my contacts are not migrating off WhatsApp. It even looks like those people love AI: I'm REALLY annoyed on how many people are posting fake Ghibli AI images on their status.

I wish Element X was easier for people to join. I'm happy with it but I highly doubt I can get my retired parents or non-techie friends to use it.

The article is missing @pixelfed as direct, but better, Instagram replacement.

Imagine still using facebook and its shitty family in 2025.

WTF

appreciate the well written post but can you get rid of the clickbait title and just write “there’s no option to get rid of it, just switch to signal”

I would have liked to read more about what is known about how this changes privacy concerns regarding WhatsApp
