I really wish someone would show Markiplier PeerTube!
He's interested in Tech, not a fan of big corps, has a gigantic following, builds his own Server Farms when he feels like it... I think he would have fun building an peertube instance and having the possibility to host his own videos and / or give other creators the possibility to host theirs.

@leberschnitzel I've never heard of him before and he seems really interesting. but with the following he has - truly MASSIVE - I don't see him abandoning YouTube, where he can monetize his videos.

With no advertising on the Fediverse, the best he could do would be asking for donations... (which is a totally legit way to do things, some people are really successful)

you can mirror a youtube account to peertube, so it would be an independent backup that has the advantage of also being available for other users!

I have to say that youtube is banning IPs, which affects Peertube import feature. We are struggling with this in @anartist.

@marcelcosta oh wow I had no idea! Thankfully that's not the case (yet?) with Vimeo. May I quote you in a future article about this issue?
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Sure!

Youtube has been quite agressive with alternatives frontend and tools like youtube-dl (which peertube uses under the hood).

The option to bypass included by peertube is to use a proxy, although we didn't manage to make it run.

I'm so glad you're shedding some light on peertube to a wider audience.

I feel that so many need it, but don't actually know it yet;) It is a major part of our creative and social sovereignty.

At this point even otherwise idiologically aligned projects that aspouse the use of alternatives to replace big tech are not even mirroring their content to the "free web".

I can't wait for your interview with Paige!

I appreciate you doing this series. It's inspired me to finally look at moving over to PeerTube. 💪

The only thing keeping me from using PeerTube right now is the need for "indexifembedded" to be added to the video embed page. Without it, I can't embed videos on my sites and have them rank for videos in Google Search.

For example, if I used a PeerTube embed on this page coywolf.video/social/hugo-game… Google wouldn't index the video associated with that page.

I added more details here: framacolibri.org/t/add-indexif…
