when I was young and the NRA was all about safety classes and of lobbying we never thought about guns. Sure we knew about them, but it was different. People had hunting rifles, but hand gun ownership was really uncommon. Semi autos were unheard of.
When my kids were young and handguns had gained popularity we sat them down and told them that guns weren’t toys, they were tools ,and to leave if they were at someone’s house and that person brought one out.

now I have grandchildren and a daughter who teaches . Semi autos are common ( thanks for nothing NRA ) my grandchildren have to do active shooter drills, and even with age appropriate language they’re scary. My daughter is responsible for the safety of a room full of children which has required her to play ‘the quiet game’ often enough so it sticks. She has mapped out escape routes.
This is not a sane way to live.

@CatDragon It's totally insane. I used to teach. We had drills, but not to that extent yet (this was early 2000s but after Coumbine) and that was creepy enough.

This is utter insanity.
