What I’ve been up to this week: aseachange.com/@elena/statuses…

The big project of the weekend (well Sunday actually, with grandparents looking after my little one) is seeing how “easy” it is to flash Lineage OS on my old Nexus 7. Excited for this challenge 🤗

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Haha, my old Nexus 7 was the beta test for LineageOS and /e/OS for me too. Never bricked it, but it was never easy, at the time at least :)

@vincent ooooooh! If you have a favorite guide to share I’m all ears 🙋🏻‍♀️

In my experience, flashing Lineage isn’t too hard. The Nexus 7 is a good device to start with, but I believe it had hardware issues that made it slower and slower (even right away).

@rob I’m shocked by how slow it is - even after a factory reset. It won’t even connect to Google Play Store… so it can’t possibly get worse 😅

My experience flashing Android ROMs is that the software is pretty resilient. I made mistakes, but never bricked the hardware. (I was using a Nextbit Robin and tried Lineage and one other one.)

Looking forward to hearing about the results. Best of luck! It definitely is an incredible feeling when you see it boot the first time.

@rob I had an “incredible” feeling yesterday when I successfully installed GrapheneOS… but then I couldn’t re-lock the bootloader. “device not found” and such… Think: 20 minutes of panic. Restarting the whole installation process from scratch did the trick 😅

right on 👍
Any tips on how to roll back to Android if things go wrong? My phone isn't on any supported list (Lineage, /e/), so it'd be trial and error.

@moonshinebrigade I think rolling back would be fairly easy... just putting it in recovery mode and flashing the stock Android (you can download it from the web).

Now I can't do A THING with my Nexus 7 because it's refusing to connect to the internet (SSL warnings for every site) and it won't connect to the Google Play Store... and is slow as a snail. Going back to square one to figure out what to do with it.

i'm no expert, it sounds like a CA certificate issue. Maybe it's missing or outdated, hence the ssl errors.

This is the closest solution that i could find: bentasker.co.uk/posts/document…

Read here how to get the latest ca-bundle.crt

the first answer looks like an easy way to install a CA cert. Not sure if these steps are possible in LineageOS.

@moonshinebrigade thank you! I haven't been able to install Lineage OS because nothing seems to work on this tablet since updating it to Android 5.5. I just want to use it as an e-reader (so I can do color-coded highlights), grrrr.

I really appreciate your help though!
