Yes, the only other species known to me to have ever been so stupid as to have destroyed their whole biosphere on a global level, are #cyanobacteria in the #GreatOxidationEvent in the #Paleoproterozoic Era.

And I get big picture relativism as a coping strategy. From the perspective of the vast universe we’re barely a blip in space or time but since it’s *our space* and *our time* and the only one we’ll ever know, it has significance to us.
People are suffering and dying and in many cases it’s avoidable. Being conscious, we can appreciate tragedy as well as irony.
The Earth, and life upon it, will continue without us. But that will be cold comfort to us, and no comfort at all to the billions that will starve and suffer.

In perspective, an average American house uses 800 - 1,000 kwh per month or 9,000 to 12,000 kwh per year.
So at the upper amount, making 1 bitcoin could power 533 homes for a year.
PS: It's not real money & a quantum computer will make it absolutely worthless b/c it will make a bitcoin in about 30 seconds.
