Meta shut down internal research into the mental health effects of Facebook and Instagram after finding causal evidence that its products harmed users’ mental health, according to court filings. japantimes.co.jp/business/2025… #business #tech #meta #facebook #instagram #socialmedia #mentalhealth #us

the question is what is the cause and what is just a consequence. and that's not social networks that affect people. that's people that create content of all social networks. and mental health is formed by social environment, economics, etc. social networks are just a mirror of soсiety. but it's easier to claim that some fb or twitter "affect" people's minds. they cannot admit their governments lead people to madness.

maybe on mastodon or other non-platform controlled feeds, but when the money made by the platform is increased by censoring and injecting feeds artificially, it is not a "natural" process of enculturation it is manipulation.

the herd instinct existed thousands of years before any twitters and so on.
so they basically can prohibit TV, books, any clubs and social organizations, religions, at last! because all they do exactly the same.

the heard instinct, okay yes, i'm with you here, humans are social beasties and we social. if the landscape is open and we are able to wander about in self-selecting groups and behaviors, this is one thing.

however, if a subset then hides fences and lies about the fences they place in order to control and censor... that is a different thing.

the question here is who is the shepherd. governments dislike the idea they lose their total control and somebody else can be more proficient in herding. all the hassle is about it. but they decorate it with "care for people", of course,

my comment was on digital services censoring without the knowledge or consent of the users of the service. explicitly, intentionally, with for-thought, planning and strategy.

mastodon does not even possess structure enabling feed manipulation.

all tech is not the same.

give me examples when censoring was including people's consent.. this is nonsense.
censure is something unnatural, always going against the will and consent of individuals and having goals to distort the information. always. any censure. there's no "good" or "bad" cansure. there's only the truth and something censored, that is not the truth. and lies always work for those who constrols the censure. so there's no difference who and how imposes it.
