In quite a lot of cases ships are used not because of lack of other logistics, but because of destinations. It is just countries and entities trading with Saudis.
Currently afaik bigger problem if war goes on that production capacity will just be destroyed and that mean loss of it for several years.

@peteriskrisjanis Yeah the refineries & ports in the region were struck not by drones, not by 1 missile but by several missiles, they will likely have to be completely rebuilt which will take years πŸ‘

If Iran can strike Israel with missiles, then this canal will do nothing to open the strait. You'd be better off building rail lines on land through Iraq or Saudi Arabia. The rails are easier to repair after missile attacks.

However, if they tell investors that they'll use AI to secure it, they'll be able to raise $3 or $4 Trillion in a couple of weeks!

in reply to Sean Lynch

@SeanPLynch Yeah I was also thinking about that, the drone threat can be mostly protected against with drone nets, but those missiles are the real issue, wondering if patriots defending just this line would be able to take them down, if the drones didn't swarm them.

Haha even better, just let AI negotiate it ;)

I feel like the AI bubble will collapse soon, so many of the big AI companies are raising capital & preparing IPO's, might be preparation for the cleanse?

I hope Jared and Ivanka aren't reading these toots.

Otherwise they will start the 'Make Hormuz *Straight* Canal Company' and start lining up investors to fleece!

in reply to Sean Lynch

@SeanPLynch πŸ˜‚ suddenly UAE would fund it, a canal coin would be up and running in no time, a president would announce US support and coincidentally a family would make some real dollar money πŸ˜‹
in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

Spoiler: No.

It'll take a long time and cost s***loads of bucks, and too many countries phase out fossils for it to ever be profitable.

in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

Yeah, one ship sunk in the canal could close it. And they could sink it using drones, mines, commando attack... Big waste of money.
in reply to MadeInDex πŸ“°πŸŒŽ

From the (highly problematic) wikipedia entry: "The canal would incorporate locks at specific points along its route to accommodate vessels and adjust water levels as necessary."

Those are some pretty tall mountains, therefore a LOT of locks, each of which becomes a pinch point and potential single-point-of-failure. Waving that kind of problem away with "... locks at specific points along its route..." seems like snake oil.

Alternatively the world could build more solar panels and wind turbines.

Oh wait ... we're doing that already!
