@HistoPol Die chinesische Ausgabe habe ich in einem Supermarkt in Chengdu für 20RMB gekauft, da sind sogar die alten Holzschnitte klassischer Ausgaben drin. Nur so als Preisvergleich, in China sind fast alle Druckwerke zu den unteren Grenzkosten druckbar, einfach, weil man mit egal was immer eine riesige Leserschaft erreicht. Das hat auch den in China erfundenen Druck mit beweglichen Lettern getötet: es hat sich immer gelohnt, Druckstöcke zu machen. Mit Bildern.

OFC, I didn't read the #Russian original. The translation was not difficult to read. The story is captivating and you learn a bit of history at that time.
Personally, I find some of James A. Michener's novels more challenging.

The book is rather short. However, the content is very condensed. One has to stay alert for each sentence.
In my view, it makes a lot of sens to first read background material about the author(s) before reading the book itself. Almost as important: read a couple of pages of pages of a good history book/article about that period in #China.
