Heads up for artists, the bluesky ToS have exactly the same terms as facebook and threads (and probably twitter) do. The wording is deliberately vague; it might mean they'll only do things as innocuous as cropping your images to fit the feed, but it might also mean using your art to promote their network or to train AI. Because it's not like rich white techbros ever did anything nefarious with other users' data... :blobcat_shrug:

It's not uncommon to have some boilerplate legal text when you're writing ToS, hence why they are so similar across platforms. I wouldn't take ToS as a proof that a platform may or may not train AI on user data.

Bluesky has made it clear that they stand against GenAI trained on users content and only use AI services for moderation purposes: bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post…

On Xitter, even tho ToS may be as vague on the matter, you just need to look at Elon Musk to see he's 100% pro-AI

A lot of people don't seem to be worried. "It is the standard legal text for social media." How easily these platforms can get away with their laziness. Astonishing!

I’m okay folks being a bit skeptical about other sites and such.
But for now blusky have already adressed they are not using user data for ai training.
