"This is a political deception" − New Chat Control convinces lawmakers, but not privacy experts yet

in reply to Babalugats

I feel like this headline is misleading because I don't think there is a way to convince privacy experts this is a good idea.

Like, the entire idea is antithetical to privacy experts understanding of the issue. You aren't going to get them to suddenly turn tail and go "gosh you're right, I wasn't thinking of the children!"

I think it is more likely that the people proposing it don't understand what it is that they are proposing. They don't seem to have a grasp of why privacy should be so protected and what they are proposing is way too much. It also seems to completely contradict what the EU were saying about 5 years ago, possibly less.

Oh they understand. At least in the official proposal that was recently withdrawn by Denmark, political figures where exempt of the encryption breaking procedures.

Chat Control is Peter Thiel specifically trying to spy on you.

This always happens when those who create laws are senile old men who confuse a remote control with a mobile phone or corrupt politicians, paid by lobbies, instead of experts in the corresponding subject.
