"It took me a long time to get started because I thought that self-hosting was complicated and unattainable for someone like me. Most guides out there are written by highly skilled people with a background in programming."
A self-hosting how-to written by someone who isn't a tech person first, is a rare thing. We need a lot more of this, and a more approachable stacks too.

I can't believe my #selfhosting one year anniversary is coming up next week. @yunohost truly changed my digital life - for the better.
This is a 1st post in a 4 part miniseries intended for real newbies.
And now excuse me while I go hide in a cave expecting irate replies from sysadmins about certain things I wrote 😅

I'm basically writing a guide I wish I had years ago... I would have gotten started on this journey a lot earlier...

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂ • • •I was glad to read your experience! I have been on a quest to make self-hosting more approachable, and I have noticed some things that don't help:
- social.tchncs.de/@teleclimber/…
- social.tchncs.de/@teleclimber/…
I'm currently working on a new platform for self-hosting (dropserver.org) that aims to address the issues as I see them but it's a long road and I'm not there yet.
Here's hoping YUNHost stays good for you. I will be following your journey!
