Commissioner Thierry #Breton has resigned from the @EUCommission and will not run again. Sounds like he is pretty pissed.

I am very curious to see where that will leave #DSA and #DMA enforcement. 😬

I don’t know him personally and have been reading mixed things coming out from him – Elon Musk told him to go fuck himself, so he must’ve been doing something right, but I’ve also seen him championing greater centralised control, etc. Would you say this is a positive/negative/neutral development for protection of human rights in the EU? (I guess it’s hard to tell without knowing his replacement.)

@aral It's a tough question, Breton has indeed been a mixed bag:

He has pushed for competitiveness over competition (e.g. in telcos) and digital sovereignty for him mostly seemed to mean building a European Google.

But on the positive side, he has also supported swift enforcement of the DSA & DMA and has never seemed scared by the powers one faces when taking on big tech firms.

Hmm, based on that, I wonder how much of it was him protecting the interests of EU Telcos against those of Silicon Valley Big Tech.

I mean, I already have very low expectations when it comes to the EU Commission :)
