(Revisiting some old photos. It was great fun chasing this train for four days.)

(And for @Ali, it was crossing the Middle Fork of the Feather River.)

The Union Pacific Big Boy, an articulated 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive manufactured by the American Locomotive Company in 1941. Here, the Big Boy had just crossed the East Branch North Fork Feather River and was parked waiting for a VIP passenger (7/11/2025). I really couldn't have been in a better spot. I thought it was just going to roll by at that location. When it stopped, I thought, "For me?" Lol!

What a fantastic thread of this old beauty. And this image is my favourite of them all. Absolut stunning.

@ambivalena I removed a few other people in the frame but left her there to help provide a sense of scale. It was a lot of fun chasing that train for four days last year. 🙂
